Columbia College Giving Day
Inaugural Event Surpasses Goal
The Columbia College community came together Tuesday, April 23, for the college’s inaugural Giving Day initiative. The 24-hour endeavor was focused on encouraging alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends of the college to each make single philanthropic gifts to the Columbia College Fund with a goal of 500 donors throughout the day.
The event’s debut was a tremendous success as 555 donors gave $29,049 to the Columbia College Fund, which supports functions of the college’s greatest needs.
“This was truly a campus-wide and nationwide effort and we are extremely grateful for the generosity our Columbia College family showed during this amazing day,” said Suzanne Rothwell, executive director of Advancement. “These funds will benefit our students immediately through scholarships, facility construction and improved technology infrastructure across our network of locations nationwide and online.”
Donations during the day came from 34 states and the District of Columbia, as well as from Australia and Brazil. Alumni from the Class of 2017 topped the number of gifts made with 16 while the Class of 2009 were the leaders in the fundraising category with $1,380 raised.
The donor demographic was wide-ranging as 54 percent of the gifts came from alumni, 32 percent game from faculty and staff, ten percent from friends of the college, five percent from students and four percent from parents. The college also benefited from four challenge gifts valued at $3,500 that were unlocked based on the number of gifts made throughout the day.
