Columbia College recognizes and celebrates students' academic achievement. The many contributors who make these scholarships and awards possible are greatly appreciated. 


Robert W. Plaster School of Business Awards

Alla Mae Baker Memorial Scholarship
Presented to a full-time, returning Day or Evening student with a declared major in business administration, a gradepoint average of 3.25 or higher and a minimum of 24 credit hours from Columbia College.
Established in 2007, the Alla Mae Baker Memorial Scholarship was created by Mrs. Connie J. Nichols ’05 and her daughter, Ms. Brooke C. Baker ’04, to honor and memorialize Mrs. Nichols’ mother and Ms. Baker’s grandmother, Alla Mae Baker. The scholarship rewards exceptional performance in the field of business administration.

Michael Boudreaux Scholarship
Presented to an outstanding upperclass student in marketing. 
This scholarship was established by friends and family in memory of Dr. Boudreaux. Dr. Boudreaux began teaching at Columbia College in 1976 and was associate professor of business and marketing at the time of his death in 1992. He founded and served as advisor to the college’s chapter of the American Marketing Association.

Central Bank of Boone County Scholarship
Presented to a returning student majoring in business with a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher and who has demonstrated involvement in community service.
This endowed fund was established in 1977 through the generous support of Central Bank of Boone County, formerly known as Boone County National Bank. It honors and supports students who are interested in a business or science-related field of study.

Julia Sara Dooley Memorial Scholarship
Presented to a full-time junior or senior accounting student with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
This scholarship was established in memory of Julia Sarah Dooley, an outstanding accounting student.

Lois J. Erdman Award
Presented to a returning junior or senior female Day student with a business major and a grade-point average of 3.4 or higher. Preference is given to students exemplifying entrepreneurial talent or spirit.
This anonymously funded award was created to honor the memory of Lois J. Erdman and is intended to allow deserving female business majors the opportunity to complete their degrees and succeed in today’s highly competitive business world.

Mary Henrietta King Estill Scholarship
Presented to an outstanding returning student who is studying business administration.
This scholarship was established by the son of Mrs. Estill, who was a Christian College alumna, class of 1905.

Richard E. Harris Scholarship
Presented to a Master of Business Administration student who exhibits academic achievement.
Richard E. Harris has been an adjunct faculty member at Columbia College in management and finance since 1995. He retired from Shelter Insurance Companies in 2008 and established this scholarship in 2009 for MBA students who exhibit academic achievement.

Lucinda Van Meter Haynie Memorial Scholarship
Presented to an outstanding student in business administration. 
This scholarship was established by Elizabeth Haynie Marshall ’26, a former trustee of the college, in memory of her mother, class of 1901.

Glenna Mae Kubach Accounting Scholarship
Presented to a returning full-time accounting major who has a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
This scholarship was established by Mrs. Kubach, professor emerita of business administration.

Anthony S. Marshall Scholarship Award in Business Administration
Presented to a returning undergraduate Day student in business administration exhibiting academic achievement.
This scholarship was established by alumnus Joseph P. Dubinski, colleagues and friends to honor Dr. Marshall and express gratitude for the influence he had on thousands of students’ academic and professional careers.

Montgomery MBA Scholarship
Presented to a Master of Business Administration student with contributions to the college and the community, who has exhibited interest in and/or has volunteered in community service.
Realizing the need for scholarships at the graduate studies level, Melissa Montgomery Carberry ’06 created this scholarship to provide support to students in the MBA program.

Daniel Scotten MBA Scholarship
Presented to an outstanding student for academic achievement in the Master of Business Administration program.
The Scotten MBA Scholarship fund was created in 2003 in honor of Mr. Scotten’s retirement from Shelter Financial Bank. Funds were provided from gifts made at a “roast” honoring him. Scotten is a trustee emeritus of the board of trustees and a former chairman of the board.

Betty Adams Crouch Excellence in Business Scholarship
Presented to a full-time undergraduate student in business administration.
This scholarship was established in 2018 by Betty 15 Adams Crouch ’56, who is committed to improving lives through higher education and students in business.

Palmer Family Scholarship
Presented to a student majoring in business, computer science/technology, mathematics, or a related major.
This award was established by Kevin and Linda Palmer in 2019. The Palmer family started this scholarship to support our mission of improving lives by providing a scholarship to deserving students. 


School of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences Awards

Criminal Justice Administration and Human Services

Molly S. Thomas Bowden Memorial Scholarship
Presented to a full-time female Day or Evening student majoring in criminal justice or forensic science who is of sophomore status or above, a native of Missouri and has a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
Molly S. Thomas Bowden was a 2002 graduate of the criminal justice program at Columbia College. While serving as an officer of the Columbia Police Department, she was killed in the line of duty. This memorial scholarship was established by her family, friends and colleagues to keep the memory of Molly alive and to honor her dedication to public service.

Hulett Family Criminal Justice Graduate Study Scholarship
Presented to Columbia, Missouri, Police Department law enforcement professionals who are recommended by the Columbia Police Department and Columbia College Criminal Justice Administration faculty.
This scholarship was established by George Hulett Jr., the Hulett family and Hulett Heating and Cooling to honor and assist the professional advancement of Columbia-area law enforcement officers in the Master of Science in Criminal Justice program.

Hulett Family Scholarship
Presented to undergraduate students majoring in criminal justice or forensic science.
This scholarship was established by George Hulett Jr. and Jeanne Hulett to provide support for undergraduate students studying criminal justice or forensic science.

Mock Trial Award
Presented to a Mock Trial team member possessing the following: at least one year of experience on the team and participation on the team the following season; leadership skills demonstrated by serving as team captain, co-captain or liaison between the team and campus community; and skills recognized with an “Outstanding Attorney” or “Outstanding Witness” award at an American Mock Trial Association (AMTA)-sanctioned invitational or regional competition.
This award was established by Barry Langford to recognize an outstanding member of the Mock Trial team.

Michael D. Lyman Criminal Justice Endowed Scholarship
Presented to students in the Day program with a declared major in criminal justice. 
Dr. Michael Lyman retired from Columbia College after 30 years as a Criminal Justice faculty member. During that time, he made numerous contributions to the program, including serving as Chair of the Criminal Justice Department and initiating the development of the Master of Science in Criminal Justice and the Bachelor of Science of Forensic Science programs. The scholarship is intended to promote professionalism in law enforcement through education, integrity and service. It is hoped that it will benefit a student intending to enter the field of law enforcement as a profession.

Education

Roy S. and Noma S. Brown Memorial Scholarship in Education
Presented to an upperclass student majoring in education with a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
Mrs. Brown, a friend of the college, bequeathed funds in her will for this scholarship.

Education Department Scholarship
Presented to an education major demonstrating leadership in curricular and/or co-curricular activities, with a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher and having completed at least 30 credit hours at Columbia College.

Emelda Harris Scholarship
Presented to a student admitted to the teacher certification program.
As a faculty member from 1990-1995, Dr. Althea M. Harris was an Assistant Professor of Social Work and Coordinator of Field Instruction of the Social Work Program at Columbia College. Dr. Harris created this scholarship to honor her mother, Mrs. Emelda Harris, who is a retired educator with the St. Louis Public Schools and Harris-Stowe State University.

Mary S. Miller Scholarship in Education
Presented to an outstanding incoming junior in teacher education.
This award was established by Dr. Mary S. Miller, academic dean from 1987 to 1992.

Mary Isabel Omer Scholarship
Presented to a junior or senior Day or Evening student majoring in education with a strong emphasis in psychology and a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
This scholarship was established by Mary Isabel Omer, head counselor at Stephens College for many years. Miss Omer was a member of the First Christian Church.

Dr. Ronald D. Taylor Memorial Scholarship
Presented to a student pursuing a Master of Arts in Teaching degree.
This scholarship was established in 2008 in memory and honor of Dr. Taylor by former students, colleagues and friends. This scholarship provides support to students pursuing a Master of Arts in Teaching. Dr. Ronald D. Taylor taught at Columbia College from 1988 to 2004.

Wagenknecht Lamm Wood Scholarship
Presented to a student pursuing a career in education. Preference is given to a student that exemplifies good citizenship through dependability, service, kindness, perseverance and leadership, and who exhibits excellent people skills.
This scholarship was established by Mary Lamm Wood '66 and Everette Wood to honor Mary’s mother, Catherine “Goldie”Wagenknecht Lamm, Christian College class of 1930.

History, Philosophy and Political Science 

Sheila L. Brynjulfson Memorial History Scholarship
Presented to a returning, full-time Day student with a declared major in history and a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher who displays outstanding scholarship. Preference is given to students native to Missouri.
This endowed scholarship was created by family and friends to honor the memory of Sheila L. Brynjulfson ’94. Sheila was the first in her family to attend college. She graduated from Columbia College with a perfect 4.0 GPA and received the president’s award for her class. The award is intended to reward exceptional scholarship in the field of history and overall academic excellence.

A.T. Clinkscales and Edith S. Clinkscales Scholarship
Presented to an outstanding returning female student majoring in history or political science.
Established by a gift from the A.T. Clinkscales Trust, this scholarship provides support to outstanding female students majoring in history or political science. Mr. Clinkscales was a brother of former Columbia College trustee Garth Clinkscales.

Give Me Liberty History Scholarship
Presented to an outstanding full-time Day student with a declared major in history or American studies.
Dr. Brad D. Lookingbill, professor of history, coordinated the creation of this scholarship through proceeds of a history textbook containing faculty original content in an agreement between W.W. Norton & Company, Inc. and Columbia College.

Lucinda Van Meter Haynie Memorial Scholarship
Presented to a returning history or political science major with strong academic performance. 
This scholarship was established by Elizabeth Haynie Marshall ’26, a former trustee of the college, in memory of her mother, class of 1901.

Phi Alpha Theta History Research Paper Award
Presented to recognize the best history papers produced by students enrolled in a Day Program history elective, as determined by the history program faculty. 

Althea W. and John A. Schiffman Ethics, Religious Studies and Philosophy Scholarship
Presented to outstanding students majoring or minoring in the ethics, religious studies and philosophy program with a grade-point average of 2.5 or higher.
In 2000, Mr. John A. Schiffman made a gift of historic proportions to Columbia College, establishing the Althea W. and John A. Schiffman Endowed Chair in Ethics, Religious Studies and Philosophy. This endowment supports students pursuing the academic minor of ethics, religious studies and philosophy. In fulfillment of Mr. Schiffman’s charge, the Schiffman Ethics in Society Lecture series was also created. Each year, the series draws nationally and internationally renowned leaders to speak about pertinent ethical issues. Althea Whitcraft Schiffman ’41 served as a director and officer for the Columbia College National Alumni Association Board of Directors from 1963 to 1976. She also served as a member of the Columbia College Board of Trustees from 1983 until her death in 1987. Mr. Schiffman fulfilled the remainder of his wife’s term on the board and served through 2007, then continued his service as a trustee emeritus until his death in 2015.

Thomas Jefferson History Scholarship
Presented to a full-time Day or Evening student with a declared history or American studies major and a 3.0 or higher GPA.
David C. O’Hagan and Diane B. O’Hagan ’59 established this scholarship to provide support for outstanding students with a History or American Studies major.

John and Sarah Yonker Religious Studies Scholarship
Presented to an outstanding student with a major in philosophy or a minor in religious studies or ethics. 
Rev. Dr. John and Mrs. Sarah Yonker generously provided a gift to the college for the purpose of creating an endowed scholarship and recognizing the founding of Columbia College in 1851 by members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and celebrating the relationship between the college and the church. This scholarship is affirming their continued support of the college, which began during his tenure as senior minister of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Columbia from 1992 to 2011, and his service as a member of the Columbia College Board of Trustees during that time.

Language and Communications Studies 

Edwina Nelson Duckworth Memorial Scholarship
Presented to the incoming editor of the Columbia College.

Larry D. Dunham Memorial Scholarship
Presented to an outstanding junior or senior English student.
This award is given in memory of Dr. Dunham, who taught English at Columbia (Christian) College from 1967 to 1976.

William W. Payne English Award
Presented to an outstanding student who has shown scholarly achievement and dedication to the study of English. 
This award was established by Edith Payne Stewart ’21, in memory of her father. Mr. Payne was a member and president of the Columbia College Board of Trustees

Betti Friedel Saunders Scholarship
Presented to a returning student with an outstanding record of performance in the performing arts.
The Saunders Scholarship was established through a grant from the Charles and Betti Saunders Foundation. Betti Friedel Saunders ’42, and her husband, Charles, have been longtime and avid supporters of the performing arts and nursing sciences.

Psychology and Sociology 

Helga S. Huang Scholarship
Presented to a student of sophomore status or above with a sociology major and a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.
This scholarship serves to support the college’s sociology program, established by Dr. Huang in 1994, by honoring its dedicated students through scholarship assistance. Professor Emerita Huang taught at Columbia College for 28 years and established this endowed scholarship upon her retirement in 2001.

Frances A. McBaine Rea Memorial Scholarship
Presented to a behavioral science student of superior ability.
This scholarship was established in 1931 with a bequest from Frances A. McBaine Rea. Ms. Rea entered a prep school on the campus of the college at the age of 7. She graduated from Christian College in 1876.

Mary Isabel Omer Scholarship
Presented to a junior or senior Day or Evening student majoring in psychology (counseling) or education (with an emphasis in psychology) with a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
This scholarship was established by Mary Isabel Omer, head counselor at Stephens College for many years. Miss Omer was a member of the First Christian Church.

Art Scholarship
Presented to a meritorious student in fine arts.

Eloise Green Bates Scholarship in the Arts
Presented to a deserving full-time returning Day student with a grade-point average of 2.5 or higher and a declared major in art.
This scholarship was established to honor Eloise Green Bates, a 1940 graduate of Christian College.

Louis P. Blosser Scholarship in Art
Presented to upperclass art students with a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
Mr. Blosser, a trustee of the college from 1937 to 1965 and an honorary trustee until his death in 1974, bequeathed funds in his will to the college to establish this scholarship.

Margaret Courter Memorial Award
Presented to a deserving student in art.
Dr. and Mrs. Sanford Courter established this scholarship in memory of their daughter, Margaret, who was an art student at Christian College.

Mabel Bondurant Culpepper '56 Art Scholarship
Presented to an outstanding female art student. 
This scholarship was established by James W. Culpepper in memory of his wife, Mabel, whose work may be found in private collections around the world.

Vivian Sloan Fiske Scholarship
Presented to outstanding junior art majors with a gradepoint average of 3.0 or higher.
Vivian Sloan Fiske, a Christian College alumna, class of 1911, and a member of the board of trustees from 1964 to 1966, left a bequest to the college, a portion of which was used to establish this scholarship.

Elizabeth Estes Gentry Scholarship
Presented to a meritorious student in fine arts. 
This award was provided by the St. Louis Alumni Club and is named in honor of Mrs. Gentry ’20, who organized the St. Louis Club in 1930. She served as chairman of the committee to organize the Columbia College National Alumni Association and served as the association’s first president from 1963 to 1965.

Hurst John Scholarship
Presented to a deserving upperclass student demonstrating artistic and academic talent.
This scholarship was established by the Missouri Council of American Registered Architects in memory of Mr. John, an architect in the city of Columbia.

Sidney Larson Student Art Award
Presented to the best student artist of the year who is a returning junior or senior art major with a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher in all art classes.
This scholarship was established in 1999 by Joanna Todd Brown and William Brown in honor of Sidney Larson, professor of art at Columbia College from 1951 to 2001.

Mary H. Robinson Art Scholarship
Presented to a deserving student in art.
This scholarship was established with an estate gift by Mrs. Robinson in memory of her mother, Anna Lynch Hatton, and her aunt, Ada Lynch Williams.

Louise Leebrick Atterbury '38 Music Scholarship
Presented to a returning full-time undergraduate Day student with a declared minor in music and a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
The Atterbury Family Foundation established this fund as an expression of family values and those of Columbia College. The scholarship honors Louise Leebrick Atterbury ’38 and her love for the arts and Christian College.

Eloise Green Bates Scholarship in Music
Presented to a deserving full-time returning Day student with a grade-point average of 2.5 or higher and a declared major in art.
This scholarship was established to honor Eloise Green Bates, a 1940 graduate of Christian College. 

James and Betty Allen Braham '42 Music Scholarship
Presented to a student with a minor in music or who is active in the Jane Froman Singers with a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher. 
A legacy gift from the Brahams established scholarships in music and science to honor Betty Allen Braham ’42, and in memory of her husband, James Braham.

Jessie M. Burley Music Scholarship
Presented to an outstanding music student.
Miss Burley, class of 1904 and a music teacher for many years in Lebanon, Missouri, bequeathed funds in her will to establish this scholarship.

Artie Mason Carter Award
Presented to a talented returning student in music.
Artie Mason Carter, class of 1900, established this award in 1935 to assist talented students of music. Carter was the founder of the Hollywood Bowl, was named Woman of the Year in 1962 by the Los Angeles Times, and was a trustee of the college from 1934 to 1967.

Frances Dillingham Family Music Award
Presented to an outstanding music student.
Frances Thompson Dillingham ’29 was one of seven women in the Thompson, Chesnut and Dillingham families to attend Christian College.

Frances Dillingham Family Music Fund Showcase Award
Presented to sophomore or higher student(s) studying music at Columbia College.
Frances Thompson Dillingham ’29 was one of seven women in the Thompson, Chesnut and Dillingham families to attend Christian College. This award is selected by a committee in which the individuals then perform at the annual Frances Dillingham Family Music Showcase.

David O’Hagan Music Scholarship
Presented to an outstanding music student who has completed a minimum of nine hours in music courses at Columbia College and has a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
This scholarship was established by James F. Infelt ’78, in honor of David C. O’Hagan, professor emeritus of music. The fund is supported by gifts from colleagues, friends and former students of Mr. O’Hagan, who taught at Columbia College from 1965 to 2000.

Marilyn Henderson Robbins '43 Music Award
Presented to an outstanding music student in the areas of piano, composer and organist.
Established by her daughters in 2013 just days short of Marilyn’s 90th birthday and her passing, this scholarship is a testament of her love of music and Columbia Christian College.

Jane Froman Singer of the Year Award
Presented to an outstanding music student who has been selected by the Jane Froman Singers in recognition of musicianship and leadership.
This scholarship was established in 2000 by Elaine Grev, professor emerita of music, with continued support from Nollie Moore, instructor of music and director of the Jane Froman Singers. The scholarship was established to honor Jane Froman Smith ’26, one of the most famous vocal performers of her time and former trustee of Columbia College.

Jane Froman Smith Memorial Scholarship
Presented to an outstanding music student.
Jane Froman Smith was a member of the class of 1926 and a former trustee of the college. This scholarship was created in her memory by her family and friends in 1980.

Kitty Iglehart Smith Award
Presented to an outstanding musician regardless of major.
This award is provided by Miss Queen Smith in honor of her mother, class of 1890.

Carole Langley Voice Award
Presented to an outstanding undergraduate student

Computer and Mathematical Sciences

Lucinda Van Meter Haynie Memorial Scholarship
Presented to an outstanding student in computer or math sciences.
This scholarship was established by Elizabeth Haynie Marshall ’26, a former trustee of the college, in memory of her mother, class of 1901.

Charles Craig Cates Jr. Scholarship for Mathematics
Presented to an outstanding student majoring in mathematics.
This scholarship was established by Helen “Miss Boo” Neary ’37 to honor her brother and recognize the importance of math sciences in higher education. Charles “CC” Cates was the reason Helen attended Christian College. Charles loved mathematics and was a successful engineer.

Computer and Information Science Scholarship
Presented to full-time Day students with a declared major in computer science or computer information systems and a grade-point average of 3.25 or higher who have completed a minimum of 60 hours with at least 12 hours of CISS coursework at the 200 level or above.
This endowed scholarship was established by Cengage Learning and the faculty of the Computer and Mathematical Sciences Department and is designed to recognize a deserving student majoring in computer science or computer information systems.

Mary Alice Robertson Simon-Merideth Scholarship
Presented to a Day or Evening student majoring in either mathematics or science with a grade-point average of 2.5 or higher.
Mary Alice Robertson Simon-Merideth ’48 established this scholarship in 1996 through outright gifts and bequests to assist students in the sciences or mathematics.

Pysical and Biological Sciences

Jane Blackman M.D. '64 Scholarship
Presented to an academically gifted female majoring in the sciences.
This scholarship was established by Dr. Jane Blackman, who graduated from Christian College in 1964. In her private practice in ophthalmology in Washington, D.C. from 1978 to 2005, Jane was a compassionate volunteer locally and also traveled three times to the Philippines to provide free rural eye care. In honor of her achievements, Jane received the 2010 Distinguished Alumni Award from the Columbia College Alumni Association.

James and Betty Allen Braham '42 Science Scholarship
Presented to a student with a declared major in the sciences and a grade-point average of 3.25 or higher.
A legacy gift from the Brahams established scholarships in music and science to honor Betty Allen Braham ’42, and in memory of her husband, James Braham.

Presented to returning students majoring in science.
This endowed fund was established in 1977 through the generous support of Central Bank of Boone County, formerly known as Boone County National Bank. It honors and supports students who are interested in a business or science-related field of study.

Grev Scholars Award
Presented to an outstanding student active in the study of science.
Mark A. Foreman created this award to honor the educational impact of Dennis M. Grev, professor emeritus of chemistry, who has enriched the lives of thousands of students at Columbia College since he began teaching in 1963.

This scholarship was established by Elizabeth Haynie Marshall ’26, a former trustee of the college, in memory of her mother, class of 1901.

Dr. Sally Hubbard '57 Scholarship
Presented to returning students majoring in science.
This scholarship was established by Dr. Sally Hubbard ’57 to provide support for undergraduate science students.

Mary Alice Robertson Simon-Merideth Scholarship
Presented to a Day or Evening student majoring in either mathematics or science.
Mary Alice Robertson Simon-Merideth ’48 established this scholarship in 1996 through outright gifts and bequests to assist students in the sciences or mathematics.

Dr. Jay A. Siegel Memorial Award
Presented to a returning full-time undergraduate student majoring in forensic science with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
This award was established in 2018 by Dr. Melinda McPherson in memory of her friend, mentor and teacher at Michigan State University. Dr. Jay A. Siegel was an influential and dedicated leader in the field of forensic science. He was a champion of education in forensic science and demonstrated his support of the Columbia College forensic science program when he visited campus as a speaker in the Centered on Science Speaker Series in the fall semester of 2013. 

Nursing 

Assisting Women’s Achievement Scholarship
The Assistance League of Mid-Missouri/Professional Leaders’ Auxiliary Scholarship is presented to female students who are mid-Missouri residents enrolled in the nursing program with a minimum of 60 credit hours and a grade-point average of 2.75 or higher.
The Assistance League of Mid-Missouri/Professional Leaders’ Auxiliary (ALMM/PLA) is a nonprofit service organization serving the Columbia community. The goal of the ALMM/PLA in creating annual scholarships is to offer financial support to women 25 years of age and older who experienced difficulties and challenges in completing their college degrees. The members of the ALMM/PLA hope that this financial support will allow the recipients to acquire their college diplomas, improve their employment opportunities, provide increased financial security for their families and become productive members of the Columbia community.

Columbia College Nursing Scholarship
Presented to an outstanding nursing student.
This scholarship was created with a gift from Columbia Regional Hospital in Columbia, Missouri, to reward outstanding nursing students.

Dr. Tina Engel Dalrymple Excellence in Nursing Endowed Scholarship
Presented to students majoring in nursing enrolled as undergraduate, full-time students with a minimum gradepoint average of 2.75.
This scholarship was created by her husband, the President of Columbia College, Dr. Scott Dalrymple, to honor his wife, for her many contributions to nursing education at Columbia College.

Sue Marshall Daulton '45 Nursing Scholarship
Presented to an outstanding nursing student.
This scholarship was established in 2014 by Sue Marshall Daulton ’45, who is committed to improving lives through education.

Georgia Kateman, RN Nursing Scholarship
Presented to an outstanding nursing student.
This scholarship was established in 2008 in memory of Georgia Kateman, RN, by her family to provide support for nursing students. Ms. Kateman believed in the importance of competence and compassion in nursing and practiced as a registered nurse in Marshall, Missouri, for more than 30 years.

Saunders Family Nursing Award
Presented to an outstanding nursing student.
The Saunders Scholarship was established through a grant from the Charles and Betti Saunders Foundation. Betti Friedel Saunders ’42, and her husband, Charles, have been longtime and avid supporters of the performing arts and nursing sciences.

Assisting Women’s Achievement Scholarship
The Assistance League of Mid-Missouri/Professional Leaders’ Auxiliary Scholarship is presented to female Evening students who are mid-Missouri residents enrolled in a degree program with a minimum of 60 credit hours and a grade-point average of 2.75 or higher.
The Assistance League of Mid-Missouri/Professional Leaders’ Auxiliary (ALMM/PLA) is a nonprofit service organization serving the Columbia community. The goal of the ALMM/PLA in creating annual scholarships is to offer financial support to women 25 years of age and older who experienced difficulties and challenges in completing their college degrees. The members of the ALMM/PLA hope that this financial support will allow the recipients to acquire their college diplomas, improve their employment opportunities, provide increased financial security for their families and become productive members of the Columbia community.

Barnhouse Memorial Scholarship
Presented to female Evening students concentrating their studies in the humanities with a minimum of 24 credit hours at Columbia College.
Created by her father, Jack Barnhouse, and her stepmother, Carla McFarland, this award memorializes Jackolyn Lois Barnhouse (1956-1998), a fellow teacher: “... a woman, good without pretense, blessed with plain reason, and with sober sense” (A. Pope).

Evening Campus Scholarship
Presented to an Evening student who has completed a minimum of 42 semester hours at Columbia College with high academic achievement, service to the college or community and a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.
This scholarship was established in 1989 by Capt. James A. Signaigo, a graduate of the Evening Campus, class of 1983.

Metscher Family Scholarship
Presented to a returning Evening student who has a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher and has completed a minimum of 42 semester hours at Columbia College.
This award was established in 1983 by members of the college staff to recognize Lizbeth Brydges Metscher, who was a valued and respected faculty member and provided encouragement and support to students for 38 years before her retirement in 2014. It also honors her husband, Richard James “Jim” Metscher, a respected Evening Campus faculty member of the college who passed away on September 23, 2009. He touched the lives of thousands of students in his 35 years with Columbia College.

Missouri Employers Mutual Scholarship
Presented to a deserving student with a declared major or minor in environmental studies, human resource management or nursing.
The Missouri Employer’s Mutual Insurance Company established its namesake scholarship to provide tuition assistance to deserving students in any of the following fields: environmental sciences, human resource management or nursing.

Mary Isabel Omer Scholarship
Presented to a junior or senior Evening student majoring in psychology (counseling) or education (with an emphasis in psychology) with a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
This scholarship was established by Mary Isabel Omer, head counselor at Stephens College for many years. Miss Omer was a member of the First Christian Church.

Mary Alice Robertson Simon-Merideth Scholarship
Presented to an outstanding Evening student majoring in either mathematics or science.
Mary Alice Robertson Simon-Merideth ’48 established this scholarship in 1996 through outright gifts and bequests to assist students in the sciences or mathematics.


Ousley Veterans Service Center Awards 

Assisting Women's Achievement Military Heroes
Awarded to veterans or individuals currently serving in the U.S. Military Reserves or National Guard. Individuals are U.S. citizens and female residents of Boone County over the age of 25 enrolled in Day, Evening or Online. 
This award was established in 2018 by the Assistance League of Mid-Missouri. Assistance League of Mid-Missouri is a chapter of the National Assistance League, where more than 26,000 members put caring and commitment into action through community-based philanthropic programs. Since 1992, Assistance League of Mid-Missouri has followed its chapter’s motto of “Working Together... Making a Difference.

Hartley G. Banks Sr. Scholarship
Presented to returning students who are Boone County residents, based on high academic performance and service to the college. Preference is given to children of alumni.
This scholarship is presented in honor of Mr. Banks, president of the board of trustees from 1948 to 1971, after whom Banks Hall is named.

Lamplighter Christian Scholarship Fund
Presented to incoming freshman with a minimum GPA of 3.0 who have demonstrated high school and community involvement.
This scholarship was established by Carol Connery Murdock '69 who attended Christian College on a full two-year Trustee scholarship. Carol's first job out of college was serving Columbia College as assistant director of Admissions. For 10 years, she recruited students in a four-state area to attend what had, by then, become the coeducational, four-year Columbia College. She helped host Student Weekends each year, which enabled prospective students to experience campus life, and she was instrumental in helping many get scholarships to attend the college. Carol remains in Texas, where in 2013, she founded a ministry for widows at her church. She feels blessed at this age and life stage to have this meaningful ministry which is fulfilling and about which she is passionate. 

Jack L. Batterson Award
Presented to the returning senior with the highest cumulative grade-point average who has completed a minimum of 60 semester hours with the Columbia College Day Campus.
This scholarship was established by the family, colleagues and friends of Mr. Batterson, professor of history and former dean of faculty at Columbia College.

Gwenneth M. Pennington Brown Scholarship
Presented to a female Missouri native with preference given to a student from a rural community.
Having passed away on April 22, 2014, this endowed scholarship was established by Gwenneth’s husband, Dr. Ross G. Brown Jr., and her children, Bruce Brown and Lisa Ford-Brown, to honor her memory and provide support to a female Missouri native student.

CenturyLink Foundation Scholarship
Presented to a student who is a resident of Missouri, has a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher and is an incoming freshman, transfer student or senior in the Day or Evening campus.
CenturyLink (GTE/Verizon) established this scholarship at Columbia College in 1997 in order to assist Missouri residents seeking higher education.

Class of 1949 Scholarship
Presented to a returning student based on academic achievement.
This scholarship was established by the Christian College class of 1949. 

Mason L. Dean Trust Award
Presented to a deserving student from the Kansas City area.
This award was established in memory of Oliver and Frances Dean by their son, Mason Dean. The couple were civic, charitable, religious and educational leaders who made substantial contributions in Kansas City, Missouri

Emma Yates Dudley Scholarship
Presented to a full-time returning Day student who displays academic potential and/or is an asset to the campus community. 
This scholarship was established by a bequest from Jean Dudley ’29, in honor of her mother.

First Christian Church of Columbia, Missouri, Christian College Scholarship
Presented to new or returning Day or Evening students who are members of a congregation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
To honor and advance her parents’ values to future generations, Judith A. Cunningham ’64, provided funding through First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Columbia, Missouri, to establish this scholarship in 2001. This was the year of the college’s sesquicentennial celebration, commemorating the historic relationship between the church and the college. The scholarship honors Jacob M. and Annie Cunningham, long-time members of the Disciples of Christ denomination.

Daisy Willis Grossnickle ’66 Education Scholarship
Presented to full-time students with junior, senior or graduate status. Preference is given to students exemplifying good moral character, showing promise of leadership and academic ability.
This scholarship was established in 2017 in honor of Daisy Willis Grossnickle ’66. Daisy was elected as the first woman to chair the Columbia College Board of Trustees and retired as board chair in 2016 but continues to serve as a trustee. Her daughters, Gayla Grossnickle Miller ’90 and Sarah Grossnickle Swindle ’96, carry on the family tradition by supporting students and philanthropy through their mother’s scholarship. Daisy’s passion for Columbia “Christian” College is obvious, with an unparalleled work ethic and the philanthropy of her time, talent and treasure. This endowed fund is a testament to students of the past, present and future of Daisy’s legacy at her alma mater

Betty Hanebaum Memorial Scholarship
Presented to a promising female student.
This scholarship was established by Mrs. Mildred Hanebaum in memory of her daughter, a member of the Christian College class of 1953.

Edgar Desmond Lee Scholarship
Presented to deserving new or returning students.
This scholarship was established in memory of former college president Edgar Desmond Lee, who served the college from 1920 to 1935, by his son, Trustee Emeritus E. Desmond Lee, to honor his many contributions to higher education and the college.

Christina M. Lyon '02 Memorial Scholarship
Presented to a returning full-time, female Day student with a rural or small-town background.
Created by Helen Stewart and her daughter, Brooke Stewart ’04, to honor the memory of Ms. Lyon through the “gift of scholarship.”

MFA Scholars Endowment
Presented to an outstanding undergraduate student from a rural Missouri community.
Established by the MFA Foundation and MFA Inc. Charitable Trust in 2013, this scholarship provides support to deserving students from a rural Missouri community

George C. Miller Scholarship
Presented to a returning student who has shown evidence of leadership.
This scholarship was established to recognize Mr. Miller, a member of the Columbia College Board of Trustees from 1968 to 1979. His mother, Mary Conley Miller, was a member of the class of 1898.

James C. Miller Award
Presented to a returning student who has demonstrated strong academic abilities and outstanding leadership during the first year of college.
James C. Miller served the college for 27 years as dean and was the 11th president of the college. Miller Hall was named in his honor. This scholarship was established in his memory by Mrs. J. C. Miller and their daughters, Jean Miller Bartels ’39, Carolyn Miller Stern ’47, and Barbara Miller Sikes ’49.

Nettie Ashlock, Marion Hertig, Mary Paxton Keeley Scholarship
Presented to a first- or second-year student with a gradepoint average of 3.5 or higher.
This scholarship was established by Genevieve Buchanan ’38, in memory of Nettie Ashlock, Marion Hertig and Mary Paxton Keeley.

Allene Preston Jones Scholarship
Presented to a Day or Evening student in any field of study.
This scholarship was created in 2009 by the proceeds from an annuity agreement established during the lifetime of Allene Preston Jones. Ms. Jones was a graduate of Hickman High School and attended Christian College. She was a member of the Christian College faculty and taught speech for 22 years. In the early 1960s, Ms. Jones hosted a television program on KOMU entitled, "Of Interest to Women."

Price-Lamke-Jennings-Bassett Scholarship
Presented to new or returning students who have a record of continuing participation in one or more extracurricular activities. Preference is given to children and grandchildren of alumni.
This scholarship was established by James B. Price and Trustee Emerita Peggy Lamke Price ’43, in 1998 in honor of the five generations of the family who have attended Columbia College, first named Christian Female College and then Christian College.

Bowen and Virginia Rogers Scholarship
Presented to a full-time undergraduate student in good academic standing attending the day program at the Columbia, Missouri campus.
 To honor her parents, Daryl Ann Rogers ‘86 and Oliver A. Schuchard provided a generous gift to endow a fund providing scholarship support to undergraduate students at Columbia College. 

Anthony W. Rollins Award
Presented to residents of Boone County who display outstanding scholarship. This is the first scholarship established at Columbia College and has been awarded continuously since 1851.
This award is provided through a gift from the Anthony J. Rollins Educational Aid Trust and was the first scholarship established at Christian College. It has been awarded continuously since 1851.

Jolene Schulz Scholarship
Presented to Day or Evening students who display outstanding scholarship. Preference is given to students from Boone County. Second preference is given to students from Macon County.
This scholarship was established in 2008 by Columbia’s Partners in Education program and friends and colleagues of Jolene Schulz to honor her 20 years of leadership and contributions to Partners in Education. This scholarship provides support for students majoring in education. Schulz, a 1961 Christian College graduate, is currently the secretary of the Columbia College Board of Trustees.

Leta Jones Spencer and George A. Spencer Memorial Scholarship
Presented to a worthy student.
This scholarship is funded by a bequest from Leta Jones Spencer, class of 1928.

Stedem Family Endowment
Presented to an outstanding Day or Evening student.
This scholarship was established in 2008 by Charles Martin ’92 and Jill Stedem ’96, in honor of their daughter, Ashley. Ashley’s diagnosis of cerebral palsy in 1988 and her inability to attend college led the Stedem family to create a scholarship for other deserving students.

Wilhelmina and Leonard Stuver Scholarship
Presented to a deserving full-time female student.
This scholarship was established by Lynne Stuver Baker ’64, and her sister Nancy Stuver Wallingford ’66, in honor of their parents

Bell Stixrud Legacy Scholarship
Presented to a full-time female, undergraduate student in the Day or Evening program.
This scholarship was established by Mary Bell Stixrud, a graduate of Columbia College to honor her mother, Virginia Bailey Bell. Mrs. Bell worked in the Columbia College Alumni Office and helped each of her five children graduate with an undergraduate degree.  


Prestigious Scholarships 

Columbia College Scholars
This full-tuition, room-and-board scholarship is awarded competitively to incoming freshmen who have a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade-point average and a minimum score of 26 on the ACT or equivalent SAT. The scholarship is renewable by maintaining a minimum 3.5 grade-point average, with an average of 30 credit hours earned annually. 

Phi Theta Kappa Honor
Phi Theta Kappa is a national academic honor society for four-year colleges and universities. The Columbia College chapter selects its members from junior and senior students of good character who rank in the upper tenth of their classes.

Presidential Scholars
This full-tuition scholarship is awarded competitively to incoming freshmen who have a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade-point average and a minimum score of 26 on the ACT or equivalent SAT. The scholarship is renewable by maintaining a minimum 3.5 grade-point average, with an average of 30 credit hours earned annually.

Education Abroad Scholarship
Presented to full-time sophomores or juniors with a grade-point average of 3.2 or higher and 24 hours at Columbia College with an interest in studying abroad. Scholarship winners agree to serve as a global ambassadors for Columbia College during the trip and following their return to campus.

Columbia College Alumni Association Scholarship
The CCAA has worked diligently to build affinity for the college and wants to pay it forward. In 2013, the CCAA Board of Directors created its first endowed scholarship to assist Columbia College students. The CCAA Scholars Program benefits students who exhibit notable affinity for Columbia College.
